We'll be dealing with it for the next several months at least. Ice in the guides, ice on the shore, ice floating down the river in big chunks that could knock you over if you aren't careful. We had a nice easy intro to winter with those wamer days last week, but now it really feels like December. A White Christmas is always nice.
The fishing is still good, even with the cold snap. Lots of people think that winter is just no good for fly fishing, but that's simply not the case. You just have to deal with some different challenges. Ice does make things difficult at times, but as long as you can deal with it it's not too bad.
It's not like fishing in the summer at all. And when your feet are freezing and you're breaking ice out of your guides for the thousandth time in an afternoon it's easy to let your mind drft back to warm summer days. But take some time and just enjoy the moment. Summer will be here soon enough. And it will be all that much more enjoyable for the waiting.
