Since the weather has been so fantastic lately i've got in plenty of fishing on my own and also picked up a few guide trips. When people ask me what the best time of year to fish in Montana is i usually tell them the spring time. Problem is most springtime trips in Montana along with awesome fishing tend to harbor the occasional snow storm. Not this year however it has been so nice and warm we've been trying to take advantage of the comfortable weather and live on the river.
Had a guide trip yesterday with Steve and Jason, two brothers from Utah who had an extra day in town and decided to go fly fishing our famous area rivers. We had a blast catching wild rainbows and browns on the Madison. I let Jason fish my 9'6" 6wt. Winston with a steelhead taper SA line so he could see the difference for himself. It was really cool to see him throwing perfect loops 40 feet out with this totally dialed in rig. I normally don't consider a better rod to make someone a better caster but for sure the right line selection can make a world of difference.
Thanks for the great day guys and for reminding me why i love guiding so much, sharing Montana's amazing fishing and places. We also learned a bit about casting and high stick nymphing so it's always fun to see anglers gaining confidence and learning.
