Rod King, owner and outfitter for The Bozeman Angler, started fly fishing with his dad on the banks of the West
Canada Creek in Upstate New York. It was the beginning of a life long addiction. He has guided trout fly fishers since 1979. First, in the Adirondack Mountains of New York for wild Brook Trout. Then, after fly fishing out West for ten years, he decided it was time to follow his passion and move his family to Bozeman Montana in 1991. Rod has fly fished his way around the world from the bonefish flats in the Bahamas to Alaska, New Zealand, Argentina, Costa Rica, Scotland and points in between.
Andrew Bennett is a long-time Montana resident with 10 years of guiding experience in the area.
Originally from Ohio, he made his way to Bozeman after High School to pursue a degree in Geography and History and a minor in fly fishing and skiing! After graduating, he became a full time guide for the Bozeman Angler and has been wowing clients ever since! Growing up in a large family with sisters, Andy has acquired endless patience and is a wonderful instructor! Andy’s favorite river is the Yellowstone and you can find him there on most of his day’s off during the summer. His trusty dog Monty is never far behind and a new addition, his fiancé Jordan, is usually in the lead! If not fishing, you can find Andy glassing Yellowstone Park for wolves and bears, hunting, skiing, ice fishing or hang’n with his lady.
Cale Van Valkenberg began guiding in 1996 at the age of 17 on his home waters near the town of Frisco, Colorado. Since then he has guided and fished in Patagonia Chile and Argentina, Alaska, Brazil, New Zealand, Belize, Mexico and the Bahamas.
He likes making margaritas, mint mojitos, and daiquiris with his hand crank blender on the river almost as much as he enjoys the fishing. He has had several essays published nationally and internationally, as well as a few photographs in magazines, ads, and company catalogs. Currently Cale is spending his winters at Montana State University in pursuit of his teaching certification to teach high school English. Cale is on the Pro Staff for Scott Fly Rods, Hatch Reels and Ro Drift boats. He is working on a beer sponsorship for this summer.
Chad Brindle was born and raised in Pennsylvania and has always had a passion for the outdoors. He has been fly fishing since the age of nine. Chad enjoys sharing his passion with others. This will be his 6th year guiding in Montana and the Bozeman Area. Chad is a patient instructor for the beginner with an easy going personality.
Tyson Webb, while recovering from a broken wrist at age 18, duct taped his first fly rod tothecast that went from the tips of his fingers to his elbow and set out to learn how to fly fish. Growing up in Northern Lower Michigan there was no shortage of streams, springs, and lakes to whip to a froth with his new rod and plaster casting aid. Over the last 10 years Ty has made his living in the fly fishing industry working for Bob Marriot's Fly Fishing Store,Great Lakes fly Fishing Company, and the last 4 years guiding full time for Feenstra Guide Service.Ty is a FFF certified casting instructor and Ty is a great spey casting instructor as well.
John Dobson has
worked in the fly fishing industry as a shop owner, guide and, currently is a sales representative for Scott Fly Rods. John has fished all over the world and enjoys long walks on the beach as well as Pina Coladas! A day spent with John on the river, not the beach will be treasured for years to come.
Lawrence Stuemke has spent the majority of his life pursuing outdoor activities and has been guiding since 1989. A former mountain guide for the Colorado Mountain School in Estes Park Colorado, Lawrence seeks out adventure whenever he can.
Last fall he guided and spent two months exploring several river systems on the Mongolian/Russian border for giant Taimen. He received a M. S. degree from Colorado State University in Natural Resource Management and focused on river system management and recreation. “I enjoy teaching others what has brought me so much enjoyment in my life. I think it is very important to share the complete outdoor experience that flyfishing gives us and to pass on the ethic of conservation and stewardship to future fly fishers”. Lawrence specializes in walk-wade trips, Spey casting and teaching advanced flyfishing techniques.
