2-2-10 Lower Madison

Recently, both Peter and I have had the itch to break away from winter wade fishing and get the boats out and float. So yesterday we drug my trusty RO drift boat out of storage and pulled it down the road to the lower Madison. Unfortunately when we stepped out of the truck at the boat launch it felt like we stepped in to a wind tunnel. The wind was absolutely ripping down stream. After a few minutes of "Boo hoo it's windy", we parked the boat, put our waders on, and started to wade. Wade fishing in a strong wind is no picnic, but it beats rowing a drift boat in it. The fishing started of a little slow, but in classic winter fashion the trout were podded up in the slower water below faster runs and riffles. Once we found these pods it was game on. Prince Nymphs, Zonkers, and any thing egg-like was the name of the game.
