August 2012

Ran into this smaller bull moose the other day while he was seeking relief from the heat in the cool river water.  Doesn't matter what type of fishing happens on those days when your lucky enough to see spectacular wildlife.  Although we did have good fishing this day as well to add the icing on the cake.  The nights are getting down there in temperatures helping the water stay cool and making the trout feed.  Tricos are still out and baetis are starting to show up as...

Fished with The guys from Hardy, John Malevich and Howard Croston, on the Madison today and had decent fishing.  Rod's boat had pretty much all their fish on the streamer while ours mostly fell prey to the hopper.  The action was enough to keep us interested but what i learned from watching Howard's cast was worth the day for me.  He is Hardy's chief rod designer so to say he understands what 9ft of graphite can and can't do is well understated.  Inverting the loop and...

The rivers still fishing well and the fish are looking up for the hoppers and small mayflies.  The Yellowstone has been pretty awesome early in the day with attractors, hoppers, and small mayflies.  They are also eating the rubberlegs and dead drifted streamer pretty well.  The water gets a little warm in the afternoon and has made fishing a little sluggish, not totally dead but slow.

The Upper madison has some georgous cool clear water with the trout looking up to...
