With the summer in full swing, what better way to beat the heat than to catch fish and swim? The kids camps have been a really fun day full of smallmouth bass, bluegill, and rope swinging. The Bozeman pond has been a great place to catch tons and tons of little fish, and do some swimming too! In the last class we swam out to the island in the middle of the pond with rods and sat in the water while fishing! Sign up your kids soon because we only have four more classes, then its back to dreary...
The rivers continue to fish great in southwest Montana with surface action on mayflies, stonflies, attractor patterns, and now the terrestrails as well. The early season conditions all pointed towards this type of good trout fishing and we are now seein it all come to fruition. The Yellowstone is clear and fishing consistenly well as is the Madison, Missouri, and Gallatin so the only question is which one to fish? All great options for the moment so get out there and go...

An excellent chance to fill in the holes for whatever you need to complete your fly fishing collection. Come by and enjoy the madness with us.
The Yellowstone fished well yesterday but has a bit of mud pushing through today from the Lamar river spike last night. The Upper madison is fishing good and would be a great second option for a float today. Had this young man Cam Chioffi stop in the shop yesterday who is part of the USA youth Fly fishing team. Great young angler who represents the future of fly fishing. It is great to see more fresh blood getting into this wonderful sport and past time. Thanks...
The Yellowstone continues to fish great even with the recent rain that has been graciously welcomed by both trout and anglers. Didn't see any mud today just a deeper olive green color to the water closer to town but still plenty of visibility. Had some fish eating up top in the morning but the bigger fish all came on subsurface flashy nymphs and streamers. Feels fantastic to have this incredible freestone offering up some consistent fishing because she can change her mind...
Monsoonal flow has brought the fish out of their hiding spots. Those elusive browns are liking the shade. Midnight stonefly nymphs and Miles' secret soft hackle are like steak and potatoes right now! Sure is nice to see some moisture!! There's word of some mud headed down... |
Fishing has been just fantastic lately on the Yellowstone, Madison, and Gallatin with thick hatches of PMDs, caddis, yellow sallies, goldenstones, and a few drakes. Grasshoppers are so close to popping i'm guessing maybe the middle or end of next week perhaps. The dry fly action right now is just what you like to see this time of year. After staring at the bobber most of the winter it just doesn't get any better than seeing the trout sip emerging mayflies and annihilate...
The Bozeman Angler will be hosting artist A.D. Maddox from Jackson Hole during the downtown artwalk on Friday July 13th from 6-8pm. She will be doing some live painting and open to discussion with passers by. Known for some beautiful trout images on the canvas and recently on Iphone covers and fly boxes by Montana Fly Co. Come downtown for some art, culture, and good conversation about fishing with this great oppertunity to meet and greet with the artist.

Trout...
Good times on the upper. A few dinks on dries, few small trout and whiteys on lightning bugs, and two nice browns on smaller tan stone flies. Life is good!
Water is getting pretty skinny though...

The stone has been offering up some awesome dry fly activity and some big hard fighting brown trout. The yellow sallies, PMDs, green drakes, and caddis have been steady hatches producing well with the dry patterns. Big flashy nymphs will equal tons and tons of whitefish which is better than no fish at all but not a trout. Get out there in the healthy green water bring some film critics and put the wood to them.

The kids classes are underway and have been a great success! We cover knots, casting, and bug identification and enjoy the warm summer days in the cool water. We have been fishing and exploring the East Gallatin and have found some cool bugs; like big crayfish, stoneflies and even a couple salmonflies! Call us today to get your kids signed up!
