Missouri River Sept. 13th-14th
Spent the last two days fishing the giant spring creek tailwater of the Missouri with my Dad and had a blast. The mornings had some good trico action mostly closer to Holter dam and the afternoons still had some good fish eating tiny caddis, psuedos, and baetis. Got nothing on the hopper but by that point in the day we had pretty much commited to throwing streamers. Had a decent number of good sized trout eat sculpin and baitfish imitations and down low you had to fight through the floating weeds but once you broke through it was game on. Got to try out the Hardy Zenith in a 9'6" 7wt. which is a truly amazing rod for throwing heavy streamers and sinktips. I am moving more and more to the 9'6" rods for a lot of different scenarios (nymphing, streamers, big foamy dries, windy days) and been very pleased. Yesterday was commited solely to swinging flies with switch rods and took some nice fish but also had a really good time relaxing and spey casting. The weather and the fishing has been incredible for September and the people are thinning out so kick back and enjoy the hook ups.
