5-5-10 Yellowstone River
Yesterday I wandered off into the Paradise Valley with my client Mike, to see if we could round up a trout or two. The day started off with blue skies, warming temps, and no wind, which in my opinion was the perfect recipe for a Mothers Day Caddis hatch. But with clouds rolling in around noon and the temps dropping, once again they didn't come. But what we did get was a few Baetis along with a big March Brown hatch, and the trout were clearly choosing the March Browns on top and below. Later in the day the weather took a turn for the worst and pounded us with snow and a killer up stream wind that made it a challenge to get the boat down stream. Once the wind blew the bugs off the water I set Mike up with a streamer rig under an indicator and dredged up two fat brownies to cap off the day.
