4-25-10 Upper Madison River

I've had my fingers crossed all week for the Yellowstone river to be in good shape by Sunday and I could put clients, Sam and Blake on a killer Mother's Day Caddis hatch. Though the water levels have dropped and have begun to clear, it was still to much of a gamble for this kid. So the Upper Madison River it was. The day started off with a bang and both Sam and Blake jumped in to a few nice Bows in the first 45 minuets, but we found ourselves stuck between two nasty storms. One to the east of us and one to west. We sat in the middle of these crazy fronts all day long and never felt a drop of rain, but the temp did drop and shut the fish down until the end of the float when the clouds dissipated. Once the clouds and nasty weather left, the temps came back up, and the fish started feeding again. Most of the fish fell for a small olive Rubber Leg, but at the end of the day we found a few Baetis and the they began to look for the Pheasant Tails and similar patterns.
