April 21 Upper Madison River

This week I had the opportunity to fish with Madison River mad man and crazed fly tier, Dan Delekta. If you've ever had the pleasure to meet Dan in his shop or attended one of his fly tying demos, you know that this guy is funny as hell. I laughed from the time we put the boat in, to the time we took it out, and still managed catch some dandy trout in between the jokes and stories. The magic flies of the day were Skwala nymphs (olive rubber legs) and Dan's Egghead patterns. Though we found fish in the obvious buckets and pools, most came from the tail outs and flats below the riffles. The water has come up about 100cfs since Wednesday and should make it a little easier to get a hard boat down the river with out too much trouble.
