East Gallatin River
This last week has brought us some mighty fine fishing weather, so Pete, Jay, and myself took full advantage of the warm temps and hit some local water. The fishing reports that we’ve been getting in the shop the last few days have been so inconsistent, it’s been hard to gat a read on what the fish are doing. In the last week we’ve had four anglers fishing the Williams bridge area on the Gallatin River : Two guys said that they killed them, and the other two said they couldn’t buy a fish. It’s been the same with the lower Madison reports as well. With that said, does it really matter? It’s January, the sun is shining, and it’s warm. The weather man can’t guarantee this sort of weather until June. We didn’t care if there was a chance in Helena of catching a fish, we were going fishing. Now, I would love for this report to be full of numerous big winter Rainbow Trout, but with the exception of a few dinkers, the trout were not to be fooled by our fur and feather offerings. But at the end of the day all three of us drove home satisfied and looking forward to the next Sunny and warm winter day.
